Alex Stern, is an artist who creates a wheelhouse all her own. With her Wild West roots in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Stern’s dynamic vocals, brazen songwriting, and classic country influences showcase both her true authenticity and raw talent.
Stern’s unapologetic honesty is already taking her incredible places. In 2018 she was selected to be a part of the CMT Artists Discovery Program; off the back of that, Stern premiered the music video for her single ‘Fingers Crossed’, which charted #1 on CMT's Twelve Pack Countdown for three weeks in a row. Based on a public vote, she was selected to join the Brantley Gilbert Cruise with such luminaries as Luke Combs, Michael Ray, and Brantley Gilbert. The Daily Country praised her “dynamic vocals and relatable songwriting,” Stage Right Secrets named her “one of our favorite breakthrough artists,” and The New Nine called her “relatable, emotional, and vulnerable.”
The aspiring singer-songwriter would travel across her home state, performing at talent shows and state fairs, wearing her grandmother’s turquoise jewelry. "Our whole family would pack into our minivan and I remember having the feeling when I changed into my cowboy boots in the backseat, that I was unstoppable." Alex recalls, “My family has supported me unconditionally from the start".
Selected to attend The GRAMMY Foundation’s GRAMMY Camp in both Los Angeles and Nashville during high school, she saw her first glimpse of the music industry. “It was such an inspiring experience that gave me the fire to keep growing as a musician, ultimately fueling me to move to Nashville to pursue music full time.”
Upon her arrival in Music City, she released her debut EP 'MIDNIGHT BANDITS' featuring her breakout single “Runaways”. Which included an ode to her Route 66 hometown and unforgettable scenes of her on the back of a Harley Davidson motorcycle. This initial project ignited her to continue the journey of writing her next chapter.
Stern is unashamedly herself in her music, baring her strength and imperfection all in one breath. Nothing embodies this outlook and candid approach to songwriting more than her forthcoming project, ‘Witness.’ The EP carries echoes of John Denver, Emmylou Harris, and Fleetwood Mac, following the intentionality of their lyric-writing, coming back again and again to introspection and authenticity.
“Some people won’t understand me, and that’s okay,” she says resolutely, “I want to own my story, let myself be seen out in the open, free to run like a wild horse...unconfined.” Her story shares her world - the spirit of the Southwest, the color of cottonwood leaves lining the Rio Grande, the sound of piñon wood fires crackling, and the tradition of handed-down turquoise jewelry.
“Alex grabs your attention and you immediately fall in love,” said Music Update Central, noting the personal touch that goes into everything she does. Each note of her music feels grounded in the rugged New Mexico landscape of her forebears. This commitment to an ethos, rather than a genre is what gives Alex Stern her longevity. Perhaps that’s why Country Music Chat Live said "If this album is any indication of where this girl’s going, then trust me, you need to hop on the bandwagon."
